Madden NFL 18 also receives its own story mode this year for the first time. The campaign called Longshot is based on The Journey from FIFA 17.

EA Sports continues to add story modes to their sporting palette. In addition to the highly successful FIFA 17 with The Journey, Madden NFL 18 now also receives a dedicated story mode for the first time, which allows a player to be tracked from his young age to the professional.

Of all the new things Madden NFL 18 brings to the table, Longshot would probably be your favorite. It's a full fledged cinematic story mode for the game, and follows the story of Devon Wade, who gets a second chance to enter the NFL after abandoning his dreams through a TV show fittingly named Longshot. Surprisingly, this mode splices more traditional Madden gameplay with Telltale style interactions in between.

Longshot constantly changes up what players are doing. One moment you might be throwing footballs at targets in order to win a challenge, and the next you can be playing a football game against Dan Marino on a military base. Some quick time events are also included, but they are never extremely difficult or unfair.

Longshot was a "football movie you can play" and that’s exactly what it is. The story crafted for Longshot is something special and is complimented with some superb acting on all sides.

Longshot isn't all cutscenes as there are quick time events, dialogue choices and minigames to get through and a lot of those choices affects the ending of the story. Players are given a Scouting Report that can be accessed when the game is paused. It shows players Wade's character and performance grades as well as positive and negative notes about your decisions and performance in minigames. Not all dialogue choices affect your character score, but with the report, you can easily pinpoint which ones affect the story and your grade.

Taking about six hours to complete, Longshot is a great mix of story, visuals, acting and gameplay. There’s also different endings you can get, depending on your dialogue choices and your performance, so there’s replayability here and EA gives three save slots for the story mode, which is always great. This mode also takes full advantage of the Frostbite engine to create great looking environments and character models, it’s just a shame the rest of the game couldn’t look this good.

As I mentioned before, there are many Telltale style decisions to make along the way, which affect Devon’s player rating can result in multiple endings, so Longshot isn’t just a one-and-done experience. If you are playing Madden NFL 18 solely for the gameplay, you may not find as much enjoyment in Longshot, as traditional games only pop up every so often, but if you are a fan of classic sports movies like Rudy and Remember the Titans, you will love Longshot.

Madden NFL 18 was released in August for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. By the way, gamers can buy madden 18 coins online to make a finely personalized Madden team.
